Linked tasks
Linked tasks connect customer records to the project work that serves them. A follow-up call, an onboarding step, or a feature a customer asked for can live as a task in Projects and still appear on the contact, company, or deal. Use this page to create and link those tasks.
Before you start
You need permission to edit projects to create or link tasks. Without it, the task buttons are unavailable and explain why.
To create a task, you must belong to at least one team, because every task is created in a team's workflow.
Create a linked task
Open a contact, company, or deal.
Go to the Tasks section. On contacts and companies, select the Tasks tab.
Select Add task and choose the team the task belongs to.
Fill in the task and create it.
The new task is linked to the record you started from.
Link an existing task
In the Tasks section, select Link existing.
In Link existing task, search by task name or key.
Select the task.
Helpin shows Task linked, and the task appears in the record's task list.
Other ways to create linked tasks
From a meeting's Action items, select Create task. See Meetings and notetaker.
From an email conversation, select Create task. See Email conversations and composer.
From a record summary's suggested next step. See Record summaries.
Where linked tasks appear
Place | What you see |
|---|---|
Record Tasks section or tab | Tasks linked to that contact, company, or deal, with their workflow state. |
Record Activity timeline | Task activity, which you can show on its own with the Tasks filter. |
CRM Overview | Your CRM-linked tasks that are due today or overdue, under CRM follow-ups. |
Projects → My Work | All of your tasks, including CRM-linked ones. |
On a contact page, the details panel also lists Open tasks. To unlink a task there, select Remove task association.
