Comments & activity timeline
Comments and activity keep the context and history of work with the item it belongs to, so the team can reconstruct decisions without hunting through chat threads.
Add a comment
Open the task, epic, or document.
Scroll to the comments area and add your update in the comment editor.
Post the comment.
Use comments for decisions, questions, handoffs, and context that others will need later. Comments support Markdown, so short paragraphs, lists, and links stay readable. You can also reply to a comment to keep a discussion threaded.
Mention the right people
In the comment editor, type @ and start typing a person's name.
Choose the person from the suggestion list and post the comment.
The mentioned person receives a notification, so use mentions when you need a response from someone specific. You can mention a team the same way: type @ and select a team handle to notify the team's active members.
Keep team mentions focused. They are useful for a shared handoff or an update that genuinely needs the team's attention; for a specific request, mention the individual. See Mentioning people.
Read the activity timeline
The activity timeline records important changes to a work item:
When the item was created, updated, or archived
When its state, priority, epic, or assignee changed, including before and after values
When files were added or removed
Use the timeline to answer practical questions: who changed the priority, when the task entered review, or what moved it into a new epic. This is especially useful when you join an item after earlier decisions were made.
Tip: The timeline shows changes with who made them and when, so you can reconstruct the sequence of decisions after the fact.
Keep updates actionable
Write what changed, why it matters, and what you need next. If work cannot continue, add the blocker as a task link and explain the context in a comment. Update the task's state as well, so the board and timeline tell the same story. See Task links & dependencies.
