Checklists

Checklists are lightweight to-do lists inside a task. Use them to capture the small steps needed to finish a piece of work — verification steps, review items, launch checks — without creating separate tracked tasks for each step.

Where checklists live

A checklist appears on the task's detail page under a Checklist heading, below the description and attachments. You can also add checklist items while creating a task (the checklist section in the create dialog). When a task has checklist items, they appear at the top of the create dialog under the Checklist toggle.

Add and edit items

  1. Open the task.

  2. Under Checklist, click the + (Add item) button.

  3. Type the step. The placeholder reads Add an item... and you can @mention a teammate or team to draw their attention.

  4. Press Enter to save.

Each item appears in a row with:

  • A checkbox to mark it complete — completed items are shown with a strikethrough but stay visible so the team can see what was covered.

  • The item text, which supports rich content and mentions.

  • An assignee control (the row shows Assign, or the avatar of the person assigned) so one person can own a step.

  • A delete action (trash icon) and a drag handle (Move item) to reorder.

The checklist header shows progress like 2/5, updating as you check items off. Rows can be reordered by dragging to reflect the order work should happen — put review and launch checks near the end.

Checklist

Checklist items are not tracked work items: they don't move through workflow states. If part of the work needs to progress on its own, create and link a separate task instead. Helpin does not have a separate "sub-task" item type — task relationships (Blocks, Relates to, Duplicates) express dependencies between tasks.

Tip: When you assign a checklist item, @mention that person in the step so it shows up in their notifications — checklist assignees are not added to the task's follower list.
