Customize built-in agents with versions

Built-in agents come with a built-in default version that Helpin maintains. You can't edit it directly, but you can make your own custom version, change it, and make it the version the agent uses. This lets you tune an agent such as Quill or Beacon for your team without building a new agent from scratch.

Before you start

  • You need permission to edit automation in your workspace.

  • Changes to the active version apply to new runs. Runs that have already started keep the settings they started with.

Create a custom version

  1. Go to Automation > Agents and select the built-in agent.

  2. On the Versions tab, select New. To start from a specific version instead, select it and choose Duplicate.

  3. Enter a Version label, such as "Engineering tuned", and an optional Description of what changes.

  4. Select Create custom version.

The new version starts as a copy of the version you started from. It isn't used until you set it as active.

Edit the version

Select your custom version. Under Version details it shows Editable, and you can change:

Select Save to keep your changes. The built-in default shows Read-only; if you try to change it, Helpin reminds you to duplicate it first.

Make it the active version

  1. Select the version in the list.

  2. Select Set as active.

The active version is marked in the list, and new runs use it from now on. To go back to Helpin's settings, select the built-in default and choose Set as active. Save or discard any unsaved edits first; Set as active is unavailable while you have changes.

Rename or delete a custom version

Open the version's menu in the list:

  • Rename — change the label or description. Changes apply immediately.

  • Delete version — permanently remove it. You can't delete the version that's currently active, so activate another version first.

Change the AI profile

The AI profile at the bottom of the Versions tab chooses which configured AI models the agent uses. For built-in agents, a change saves immediately and applies to new runs. Runs already accepted keep their original selection.
