Move around your workspace

Use the sidebar to open modules and pages, switch workspaces with keyboard shortcuts, and hide the sidebar when you need space.

The sidebar is how you move between modules, pages and workspaces in Helpin. This article explains what each part of the sidebar does and how to switch workspaces quickly.

Find your way around the sidebar

Area

What it does

Workspace switcher (top)

Shows the workspace you're in. Select it to switch to another workspace.

Notification bell (top)

Opens your notifications. See Use the notification inbox.

Module icons (left edge)

Projects, Support, Docs, CRM, Automation and Settings. Select one to open that module.

Module menu

The pages inside the module you selected, such as My Work, Objectives, Roadmap and Reports in Projects.

Search (bottom)

Opens workspace search. See Search your workspace.

Your avatar (bottom left)

Opens the account menu with Profile, Settings, All Workspaces, Get Help and Sign out.

Below the module icons you can switch between light and dark mode.

Why you might not see a module

You only see the modules you have access to. Everyone in a workspace has Projects and Docs. CRM, Support and Automation depend on access that a workspace admin grants to your team or to you directly. If you have access to agents but not the full Automation module, the icon is labelled Agents instead. See Workspace roles and permissions.

When a workspace still has setup steps to finish, a Setup icon with a progress indicator appears below the other modules.

Switch workspaces

  1. Select the workspace name at the top of the sidebar.

  2. Type in Filter workspaces to narrow the list, if you belong to many workspaces.

  3. Select the workspace you want.

Helpin keeps you in the same area when it can. For example, if you're viewing CRM contacts, you land on CRM contacts in the other workspace. If you were looking at a specific conversation or document, you land on the Support inbox or Docs home instead.

If you belong to workspaces in more than one organization, the list is grouped by organization.

A red badge on the switcher shows unread support conversations in your other workspaces. The same badge appears next to each workspace in the list.

Keyboard shortcuts for workspaces

The first nine workspaces in the list have shortcuts, shown next to each name:

  • ⌘1 to ⌘9 on a Mac

  • Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+9 on Windows and Linux

These shortcuts don't work while you're typing in a text field.

See or create workspaces

At the bottom of the switcher:

  • View All opens the list of all your workspaces.

  • Create starts creating a new workspace. See Create your workspace.

Hide the sidebar

To get more room, press ⌘B on a Mac or Ctrl+B on Windows and Linux, or select the collapse button at the top of the sidebar. Use the same shortcut to bring it back.
